This was a first-time tournament in hopes to start longer format darts in the USA. The tournament was broken into 8 sections of 4 where you played everyone 11 games.
The top eight point getters advanced to the knock out round. Once in the knock out, it was best of 11 which is the same as the PDC. I was able to come out of my section 28-5 which was a tie for first. In the first round I played very good up and coming player Lor Thao who I was able to get by 6-3. In the semis I played top local shooter and sometime traveler, Michael Hathaidharm who I was able to beat 6-2. This put me in the finals against local rival Scotty Burnett. Unfortunately, I lost 6-5 in a good finals – turning point of the match was Scotty hitting a 180 to leave 20 and me wiring a 161 out behind him. All in all, the tournament was a great success and hope they continue with this format so it can catch on in the US. This is what we need to catch up to the big PDC players.
Thanks to Bob and Maggie Martell for making this happen. Great job!
