26th Virginia Beach Dart Classic – March 29 – April 2, 2012

The weekend started with a red-eye flight to Virginia Beach and picked up at airport by Gary Mawson.  After a couple of errands we were in the hotel to prepare for the Friday, 2pm ET start time for the Pro Cricket

Friday Results – Pro Cricket Singles

First up was the big event of the weekend, Pro Cricket singles, long format. I went through my first 3 rounds without dropping a leg with wins over Steve Panuncialman and Shawn Brennaman, which saw me in the top 8 against Tim Bagley. A back and forth match with me just nicking it 4-3 put me in the top 4 against Ed Shoepe. I raced out to a 3-0 lead and eventually won 4-2 putting me in the final against Darin Young. The final was best of 9 with the first 7 legs going with the darts 4-3 Darin. In leg 8 with me having 15’s and 16’s open and a few points, Darin had the bulls open and did what he so often does - hit the center bull, triple 16 and triple 15 for the match. Well played and congrats to fellow Fit Flight player, Darin Young on the win!

John Kramer and I teamed up for the 501 Doubles.  We use to play together a few years ago until John went on a break so it was good to play with him again. Unfortunately, we both weren’t at our best but were able to grind out first round money finish. Thanks John it was fun!!

In cricket singles, I lost in the 3rd round to Larry Butler.  Congrats to Tom Sawyer on the win!!

Because of my early flight home on Sunday night, I only played the 501 Singles.  Shooting good, I saw myself in the top 32 where I was able to get past Johnny K.  This got me a meeting with Tom Sawyer in the top 16.  The first 4 legs all went with the darts.  In the 5th leg I lost the bull but went out with a nice 136 for a 12 dart leg and the match!! This put me in the Top 8 against Darin Young again.  However, again another win for him with me missing 1 dart at tops to go up 2-0 and eventfully losing the match 3-1.

In the end, congrats to Brandon Rogers on the win!!

Thank you to Chris and Linda Bender and there wonderful staff on running one of best tournaments in the country even though I wish it was a littler easier to get to and a little closer, LOL. Thanks to GM and JS for the lift to the airport.
