The Great White Blog
Pacmania II, Los Angelos, CA - June 18-21, 2009
It is amazing what Manny is doing for darts in America, especially in California. The tournament was very well ran with great after parties - food, live band and even go-go dancers. Just great all around fun!!
Now to darts, I arrived Thursday for the three blind draws. In blind draws one and three I drew a local Bay Area soft-tip player Olga - great lady. Although we did not cash, we managed to go a couple of rounds and had a lot of fun. In blind draw event #2, I drew another Bay Area local, Matt Pope. Matt and I took out a lot of good teams before bowing out in the top 8. I was really disappointed in this event cause Matt was shooting some great darts and I thought we had a chance to win.
First event Friday morning was doubles 501. Gary Mawson and I lost in the top 16 after proceeding to miss a grand total of 21 darts at a double for the match in games 2 and 3. Not the start we were looking for :(. Next up was men's single Chicago where I made it to the top 8 before losing to doubles partner Gary Mawson.
Saturday's first event was men's double cricket. Gary and I made it to the top 4 where we lost to Darin Young and Jimmy Widmayer. In the men's single 501, I met long time friend and fellow southern Ontarian, Dan Olsen. After trading the first four legs, Dan had the start in the fifth leg and took out double 1 with his last dart with me sitting on 32. Dan went on to win the event and a cool $5000 for his efforts - CONGRATS.
Gary and I teamed up with Doreen Berry and once again making the top 8 before missing doubles to go further. Thanks Doreen who shot brilliant! Men's single cricket was next where in the second round I ran into Jimmy Widmayer. Jimmy got past me in the third leg after some very frustrating fall outs by me.
Gary and I lost to Bob Castillo and Eddie Lawrence in the third leg that came down to the bulls. Gary and I needing three bulls. Eddie and Bob needing seven. After six darts, Gary and I were still needing one. Bob and Eddie needing zero. This was in the top 32.
The last event of the tournament was the blind draw 4-person team. Not something anyone of us are used to but I did draw a good team - Jimmy Widmayer, Chris Luna and one of the tournament organizers, Edward Lura. Lost in the top 16 in the 7th leg and although this was no fault of Jimmy's as he shot brilliant and deserved to go on - sorry Jim! I managed to make some money but I was very disappointed in the darts I threw.
